Passing through tea plantations and forested slopes this train crosses 16 to 9 tunnels, 250 bridges and 208 curves, and is India's only operating rack-and-pinion railway.
Conceived in 1854, opened up to Coonoor in 1899, and extended all the way to Ooty by 1908, today it provides one of the most beautiful and mesmerising mountain views by train accompanied with the feeling of slow nostalgic travel.
